The McMaster Alumni Association is pleased to partner with the McMaster Conference on Education & Cognition to provide an online lecture on: Online, in-person or both? Some guidelines for deciding with Tony Bates, President and CEO of Tony Bates Associates Ltd, a private company specializing in consultancy and training in the planning and management of e-learning and distance education.

The traditional model of teaching and learning was altered with the COVID pandemic. When classrooms shut down, instructors and students moved to online learning. When students were welcomed back into physical classes, all instructors had the experience of online learning and many wondered, is returning to the “old ways” the best way for student learning?

Join us for an informative talk that will focus on the benefits and drawbacks of synchronous and asynchronous teaching. Tony will set out some criteria for deciding on the appropriate mix of in-person and online teaching. This presentation will also include suggestions on good design principles when teaching online or in a blended mode.

About our speaker: Dr. Tony Bates is the author of eleven books in the field of online learning and distance education. He has provided consulting services specializing in training in the planning and management of online learning and distance education, working with over 40 organizations in 25 countries. Tony is a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education, Toronto Metropolitan University, and a Research Associate with Contact North | Contact Nord, Ontario’s Distance Education & Training Network.
