Miami alumna and author, Kala Allen Omeiza `16, will present, Thriving while Neurodivergent: Developing self-compassion and your interests to live a purposeful life.

In her Miami University Disability Services keynote address in 2022, Miami alumna and author, Kala Allen Omeiza `16, first introduced the concept of the Hedonic Flywheel Effect. Based on her latest book, Autistic and Black, Kala will further discuss the term and the steps needed to improve overall well-being, particularly within neurodivergent communities.  

Kala Allen Omeiza is a Pan-African neurodiversity advocate through literature, initiatives, and technology. She leads I'm Heard Inc., a nonprofit focused on eliminating the stigma of mental illness in minority communities.

Kala has worked on various research projects on autism and mental health around the world, including at Harvard Medical School and as a US Fulbright scholar in Nigeria. She is a 2016 graduate of Miami University and masters graduate of the University of Oxford. An American citizen, she lives in Oxford, England with her husband Daniel, their baby son, and their eleven plants.
