Join us for a special conversation with Miami alumna Amanda Makulec '08, as she helps with strategies for Making Data Meaningful.
The world today is saturated with charts and graphs, from work dashboards to data journalism. We gloss over charts that fail to grab our attention, but what simple features create a great graphic? During this session, we'll explore the encodings, practices, and design decisions behind impactful data visualizations, highlight simple tricks you can apply to your work if you create charts, and help you become a more thoughtful consumer of information if you're a chart reader, rather than a chart creator.
Amanda Makulec is a data visualization designer based in Washington DC, where she focuses on teaching and coaching on public health data visualization. Her work across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors has taken her to more than a dozen countries around the world. She also volunteers as the Executive Director for the Data Visualization Society, a global professional association for data visualization practitioners, and co-host of the monthly Chart Chat livestream.
