We're excited to bring all the tradition and excitement of Alumni Weekend right to your device! You don’t have to be on campus to experience all the Love and Honor with our virtual Alumni College offerings.

What do Snoop Dogg, Jimmy Fallon, Serena Williams, and Mark Cuban have in common? They are all owners and promoters of a new technology called non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The unprecedented popularity of NFTs resulted in the Collins Dictionary naming it the word of the year in 2021. In this accessible talk, Dr. Arthur Carvalho explains the core idea behind NFTs and discusses use cases from the Bored Ape Yacht Club to the Metaverse. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn how to create NFTs on the OpenSea platform.

Dr. Arthur Carvalho is the Dinesh & Ila Paliwal Innovation Chair and an Associate Professor of Information Systems & Analytics at Farmer School of Business, Miami University. Having developed one of the first blockchain courses at the undergraduate level in the U.S., Dr. Carvalho has led the blockchain-related educational endeavors at Miami University. He has published extensively on topics related to blockchain governance, adoption, and applications.

The presentation is free to watch online, but registration is required.
