The Baltic Sea is one of the most naturally beautiful, historically significant, and lesser-known of the world’s littoral regions. In this webinar, we’ll discuss the rich history and intriguing present of this fascinating region, with a special focus on what the recent addition of Finland and pending addition of Sweden to NATO and other security developments mean for the future of European and global security.

 

Kate Graney is a Professor of Political Science at Skidmore College, where she teaches classes in the history and politics of the former Soviet Union as well as in human rights, peace studies, and gender and international relations. She has served as the chair of the Political Science Department, the director of the Gender Studies Program, and Chair of the both the Curriculum Committee and Committee on Academic Standing at Skidmore. She is co-curator of the on-line Tang exhibit We’ve Only Just Begun: 100 Years of Skidmore Women and Politics, and is the author of two books, including Russia, the Former Soviet Republics and Europe Since 1989: Transformation and Tragedy (Oxford University Press, 1999). A native of western New York, she enjoys hiking, skiing, reading, and learning.
