Because of the current pandemic, people have experienced all too well the importance of having a ready supply of toilet paper at home, of knowing best practices when it comes to personal hygiene. In light of these circumstances, this webinar will draw from the ancient world and connect it to the modern by considering the universal need for comfort in our commodes, sanitation in our sewage systems. Hike up your togas, get your minds in the gutter, and be ready to learn about ancient Greek and Roman toilets and toilet paper. Amy Oh is a Teaching Professor of Classics at Skidmore College. She received her B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles and her Ph.D. in Classical Philology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She teaches courses in Greek and Latin as well as in translation, with a focus on ancient literature and culture. Her research interests include ancient medicine, epistolography, and biblical epic.
