We are excited to bring all the tradition and excitement of Alumni Weekend – along with some new twists on old favorites – right to you! You don’t have to be on campus to experience all the Love and Honor with our full slate of virtual events.

Join Kara Strass, Director, Miami Tribe Relations to celebrate the 20th year of The Myaamia Center on campus.  From new staff additions, campus initiatives, and research to preparing to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the relationship between the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and Miami University in 2022; learn about what is happening at The Myaamia Center in their 20th year!

Kara Strass joined the Myaamia Center as a graduate assistant in 2016. In 2018, she earned her master’s degree at Miami in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE), and joined the Myaamia Center staff as a full-time employee. In January 2020, Kara formally transitioned into the role of Director, Miami Tribe Relations.

Originally from Huntington, Indiana, Kara attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated in 2011. While at Notre Dame, Kara worked extensively with the Native American Student Association, and started thinking about ways to support Native American students through the college experience. This is what made her think about Student Affairs as a field of study, and Kara is excited to be working with her own Myaamia community.

Kara’s graduate studies focused on Student Development Theory, and specifically how these theories can be applied to make Myaamia students successful in their college endeavors. Her work at the Myaamia Center includes working with Myaamia students in a variety of ways, outreach to the broader Miami University community, as well as planning for programs including Breath of Life and the Myaamiaki Conference. She also serves as a co-advisor to Miami’s Native American Student Association.
