Join Dean Liz Mullenix and Associate Dean John Weigand as they provide an overview of some exciting new programs and initiatives within the College of Creative Arts. Learn about the College’s new Department of Emerging Technology in Business and Design (ETBD), as well as new programs in Art Therapy, Fashion, and Arts Business. Liz and John will discuss the exciting interdisciplinary connections within these programs and within our established Departments of Architecture/Interior Design, Art, Music, and Theatre. 

John and Liz will discuss how the arts & design and entertainment industries have been impacted by Covid-19, and how the academy is adjusting and adapting, as well as how we’re preparing artists, creatives, and designers to thrive in a world significantly changed by the pandemic.

Elizabeth Reitz Mullenix is Dean of the College of Creative Arts and Professor of Theatre. Liz has been the CCA Dean for 8 years and prior to this was the Chair of the Department of Theatre at Miami for seven years. Before coming to Miami, Liz was a professor at Illinois State University for 11 years and Associate Dean of their College of Fine Arts. Dean Mullenix is a cultural historian and writes about American performance and politics during the mid 19th century, with an emphasis on race and gender. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Richmond Shakespeare Festival.

John Weigand is Professor of Architecture and Associate Dean in the College of Creative Arts at Miami University. After earning the Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois, he worked professionally as an architect in Chicago and came to Miami in the early 1990's, initially being hired to conceptualize a new BFA degree program in Interior Design aligned with Miami's BA in Architecture. He directed this program until 2006 when he became Department Chair, a position he held until 2015. John has served on the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) National Board of Directors as well as the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Ohio Board of Directors and AIA Ohio Foundation, during which time he served as AIA Ohio President in 2018.
