Join us for Winter College – five days of lunchtime webinar lectures and MUAA's famous virtual bourbon and wine tastings.  All fun and no exams means this is the collegiate experience of your dreams!

How did two institutions, with almost nothing in common aside from their name, forge a mutually-beneficial partnership centered on education? The story spans centuries of separation, loss, and ultimately, collaboration and mutual learning.

Join us as historian Cameron Shriver discusses his new book, authored with Bobbe Burke, Our People Believe in Education: The Unlikely Alliance of the Miami Tribe and Miami University (2025). This groundbreaking work reveals how shared values around education bridged a complex and painful history.
* All author royalties from the book go to the Myaamia Center to support student programs.

After discussing the long history that entangles the Miami Tribe and Miami University, we will think about what the history means for us today.

Cam Shriver is Senior Research Associate at the Myaamia Center at Miami University. As a historian, his expertise is the Myaamia experience of the last four centuries, including changes in land tenure, education, and colonialism. He frequently teaches "Introduction to the Miami Tribe" through Miami's history department.
