Jannie Kamara, Miami's current Student Body President, and first Black woman in school history to hold that position, will have a virtual discussion with some of Miami’s previous Black Student Body Presidents. These individuals include John Cager '86 (Miami's first elected Black Student Body President), Randi Thomas ’88, Brian Alexander ’07, and Jaylen Perkins ’20.
The discussion will include their experiences in student government and why they choose to run for the position. The group will also have advice to offer BIPOC students and alumni on how and why to get involved in leadership positions.
JOHN CAGER is Pastor of the 630-member Ward African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles.
RANDI THOMAS is the inaugural Vice President of ASPIRE, an office for advancing strategy, partnerships, institutional relations, and economy at Miami University.
BRIAN ALEXANDER is the Senior Associate Director of External Relations for New Leaders Org.
JAYLEN PERKINS is an Addiction Navigator at Bon Secours Health Mercy Health and is studying for a master’s degree in public health at Cornell University.
JANNIE KAMARA is a senior studying Diversity and Leadership and Black World Studies.
