During the 2022/2023 academic year, the Institutional Task Force on Student, Faculty, and Staff Mental Health and Well-Being (MHTF) was charged to assess Miami's current services and culture around mental health and emotional well-being and to make recommendations for improvement. Based on the work of three workgroups (students, faculty/staff, and community), campus listening sessions, literature on mental health and well-being, local and national survey data, and a review of best practices, the 66 members of the task force, representing all campuses, crafted recommendations in four major areas: systems, communication, education, and culture.

Members of the MHTF will present two webinars, this one focused primarily on students, and another on faculty and staff. We will discuss the highlights of the Task Force's report and recommendations, and talk about next steps in this important work.

Presenters: Dr. Jayne Brownell, Senior Vice President for Student Life, and Dr. Brooke A. Flinders, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science, served as co-chairs for the Mental Health Task Force. Dr. Steve Large, Assistant Vice President for Health and Wellness in the Division of Student Life was co-chair of the MHTF workgroup on community well-being, and will be serving as the chair of the newly established Mental Health and Well-being Committee, whose first task is prioritizing the MHTF recommendations and developing an implementation plan.
