Miami Presents: Driving Relief to Ukraine

As war ravaged a country he loved, Miami alum, Jeff Hartman ‘01 decided he needed to do something to help his Ukrainian friends.  He bought a truck, filled it with supplies, and drove from London, England to the border of Poland and Ukraine.  Seeing the impact his efforts could make, he founded Ukrainian Action, a U.S. tax-exempt 501(c)3 charity, to channel donor support directly to vulnerable civilians in the country.  Since the war began, he has led a convoy of trucks driven by Volunteers from London to Poland every weekend.  To date, he has raised nearly $500k and donated over 30 trucks filled with critical medical and humanitarian supplies to people in need. Ukrainian Action has also partnered with a global water charity and is working to install infrastructure to provide thousands of gallons of clean drinking water to Ukrainian cities destroyed by war.

Jeff Hartman graduated with a BS in Business from Miami University in 2001.  After his time at Miami, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ukraine from 2002-2004.  Since then, he has built a career around emerging markets, energy, and commodities while living abroad in ten different countries.  He speaks four languages, including Ukrainian, and earned an MSc in International Finance & Development from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.  Jeff has worked and resided in London, England since 2008, and founded Ukrainian Action in March 2022 just after the Russian attack on Ukraine began.
