Join CEC Alumni Brett Cope ‘90, President & CEO, Powell Industries, Inc., and Jon Olson ‘90, Senior Vice President, Industrial Automation, Schneider Electric for a discussion about their journey as engineers and the skills they have used and acquired, behaviors in the workplace, and a conversation about what to expect from the engineering of tomorrow.

Brett Cope ‘90 is President and Chief Executive Officer of Powell Industries, Inc., and was elected as the Chairman of the Board for Powell Industries in 2019. Brett has more than 29 years of experience in the electrical, automation, and process industries, he joined Powell in 2011 to create a global Sales and Marketing team across Powell as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Prior to joining Powell, Brett spent twenty years with ABB in various engineering, project operations, and sales management positions. In his last role as the Group Vice President, he was responsible for the strategic development and execution of global business initiatives for ABB’s activities with the ExxonMobil Corporation. Brett obtained a B.S. in Applied Science and has successfully completed numerous professional certifications. Powell Industries designs, manufactures, and services custom-engineered equipment and systems for the distribution, control, and monitoring of electrical energy. Powell markets include large industrial customers such as utilities, oil and gas producers, refineries, petrochemical plants, pulp and paper producers, mining operations, and commuter railways. 

Jon Olson ‘90 is Senior Vice President of Industrial Automation for Schneider Electric USA.  His extensive automation expertise spans three decades in multiple industries. Working internationally, Jon has a background in engineering, sales, strategy development, project delivery, commercial operation, and business transformation. His focus is to bring value to customers, business partners, and shareholders alike. A graduate of Miami University, Jon began a long and varied career with ABB as an engineer in 1989, and quickly moved into management and leadership.  He joined Schneider Electric in 2017 and led the growth of Process Automation in North, Central and South America, and assumed leadership of the Industrial Automation USA business in 2021.  A firm believer in education, leadership, and continuous improvement, Jon is a past president of the board of trustees for the Miami University, Paper Science and Chemical Engineering Foundation.
