“Use it or lose it”, “motion is lotion”, “fit as a fiddle”, “work out” – there are lots of ways we talk about movement, but for many it’s easier said than done. Winter weather and current indoor fitness facility limitations can make daily movement even more challenging. Join Drs. James McKendry and Amanda Scione ’10 for a virtual talk about the importance of movement at any age and stage, that’s sure to help you inspire words into action.

Dr. James McKendry is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Kinesiology and a McCall-MacBain Postdoctoral Fellow at McMaster University. Dr. McKendry completed his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham, UK, and is now a member of Dr. Stuart Phillips’ protein metabolism research group, wherein the focus of Dr. McKendry's research is to explore the adaptive response of muscle to use and disuse, and sarcopenia of aging. Dr. McKendry also has a keen interest in studying unique populations – such as master athletes - and novel nutritional interventions to support muscle adaptation. Dr. McKendry has been a recipient of the prestigious European College of Sports Science Young Investigator Award for his Ph.D. work in master athletes and recently published an article in The Conversation highlighting how damaging physical inactivity can be for one’s health.
