@HomeWithMac - Fitness Reset: Why Movement Matters

Physical fitness often tops many New Year’s resolutions, and its benefits extend far beyond the body. Join Anjali Bedi, a PhD student and researcher in McMaster’s NeuroFit Lab, as she shares how physical fitness plays a powerful role in supporting long‑term cognitive well‑being.

Drawing on her work identifying and ranking risk factors for dementia, Anjali will discuss the importance of fitness as a modifiable factor that can reduce the risk of dementia. She will share how individuals can come to understand their own risk profiles for dementia that can help them make informed decisions about their own health. Finally, Anjali will provide a few helpful tips and tricks to help with exercise motivation.

About our speaker:

Anjali M. Bedi (she/her) is a first-year PhD student in Kinesiology at McMaster University and a member of the NeuroFit Lab. Her research examines how modifiable and non-modifiable factors shape dementia risk across the lifespan, with particular attention to how identity and lived experience influence these relationships. She is passionate about science communication and co-founded a lab-based team dedicated to translating aging and brain health research for broader audiences. Beyond the lab, Anjali has worked with organizations such as the Exercise, Sport, and Movement journal to promote scientific research through digital media. Her long-term goal is to empower individuals with accessible knowledge about their risk profiles, supporting informed and proactive decisions about their well-being.
