Joshna Maharaj ’00 is an activist chef and author of Take Back the Tray. She is based in Toronto, and recipient of McMaster’s GTA Impact Award. Her natural passion for good food extends to her passion: access to good, healthy food is a fundamental right and essential to people’s dignity and wellbeing.

The pandemic has highlighted the issue of unequal access to healthy food. Joshna will talk about that access through our industrial food and agriculture systems, and trace it to the very ground in which the food is grown.

If you are the type of person who likes homework, she is suggesting you watch the documentary Kiss The Ground (available on Netflix Canada or on kissthegroundmovie.com). Her talk will build on the themes of the film, including the possible impacts of regenerative agriculture, and how that fits into her drive for access.
