There is nothing more captivating than a good story. Join alumni writers Terri Favro, Farzana Doctor, and moderator James Tennant as they discuss how and where they find inspiration to create the people and plot for a compelling story and why storytelling is so important. Both aspiring writers and reading enthusiasts will enjoy this entertaining panel.

About our speakers:

Farzana Doctor is a writer, activist, and psychotherapist. Her second novel, Six Metres of Pavement, won a 2012 Lambda Literary Award and was short-listed for the 2012 Toronto Book Award. In 2017 it was voted the One Book One Brampton 2017 winner. Her third novel, All Inclusive was a Kobo 2015 and National Post Best Book of the Year. Her fourth novel, Seven was chosen for many 2020 Best Book lists and shortlisted for the Trillium and Evergreen Awards. Her poetry collection, You Still Look The Same, was just released in May 2022.

Terri Favro is a Toronto-based novelist, essayist and storyteller. She has been a winner and a finalist in numerous literary competitions, including the CBC Creative Non-Fiction Prize and the Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic. Her critically-acclaimed speculative fiction novel "Sputnik's Children" was longlisted for CBC Books Canada Reads 2020. Her non-fiction book about robot-human relationships, Generation Robot, was recommended by the American Library Association. Favro's new novel, "The Sisters Sputnik" was released in May.

Jamie Tennant is a Hamilton-based author, broadcaster and journalist. He is the Program Director at 93.3 CFMU FM as well as the host/producer of the weekly program Get Lit. His debut novel, The Captain of Kinnoull Hill, was published in 2016 and his newest novel, River, Diverted, was just released this fall.
