Parachute Science: How powerful stories and diverse sources highlight critical narratives in science

Join us for another installment of the popular Science Stories: A Science Communication Speaker Series with host Katie Moisse, Assistant Professor, Interdisciplinary Science.

This fall the McMaster community is pleased to welcome guest speaker Wudan Yan, an independent journalist based in the Pacific Northwest.

In this free, virtual talk, Wudan will walk us through her process for reporting "The Pandemic is Undoing Field Researchers' Oldest Assumption," a feature-length story published in The Atlantic about the perils of parachute science.

Wudan Yan is a magazine and enterprise reporter, mainly covering science and society. She's written for The Atlantic, The Guardian, National Geographic, The New York Times, among many others. She has reported longform features from Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Southeast Asia, and Native Nations in the US and her work has been supported by The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, the Society of Environmental Journalists, and many other grant organizations.
