Student Empowerment in a Time of Challenge

War abroad.  Racial unrest at home.  Sexual inequality on campus.  Demands for more meaningful education.
University students took to the streets, occupied offices, and protested in other ways to challenge the status quo in the late 1960s and early 1970s.  Students rose up across the country and here at Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s to demand change.  
Although issues that motivated protest in the 1960s and 1970s persist today, student actions often bettered the campuses and broader society.
