Miami Presents: Virtual Alumni Weekend "Black History at Miami"

The webinar will focus on the unique story of blacks at Miami University. It began with a civil war veteran seeking to come to Miami and to the present time of students electing the university's first black woman student body president. The presentation will focus on the triumphs and struggles of blacks during their time at Miami. Jacqueline Johnson, serves as Miami University's archivist. Jacky helped to put together vital historical information on blacks that attended Miami. Valerie Edwards Elliott '75 is the Manager of Smith Library of Regional History, which is noted for collecting Oxford's African American history. She has written and edited numerous local history publications. Seth Seward '11, is the Assistant Director of Alumni Groups. He serves as a liaison for underrepresented alumni groups which includes the Black Alumni Advisory Committee and the Latin@ Alumni Group. Seth is a second generation graduate of Miami (parents Rollin Seward '80 and Carolyn Dulin Seward '81).
