In this webinar, Dr. Philip Smith will teach basic skills for staying informed during the COVID-19 pandemic, empowering the audience to make informed decisions during this unprecedented time of uncertainty. The webinar is intended for a general audience and does not require any prior knowledge of public health or epidemiology. Participants will learn to: · Define basic infectious disease vocabulary. · Compare COVID-19 to other infectious diseases, including the seasonal flu, SARS, and swine flu. · Interpret information about coronavirus and COVID-19 from various sources, and apply this information to their everyday lives. · Proactively stay informed about COVID-19. The webinar will include time for Q&A. Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Miami University. Dr. Smith received his Masters degree in Epidemiology and his PhD in Community Health and Health Behavior from SUNY University at Buffalo. Dr. Smith also completed a fellowship in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Smith conducts research and teaches courses on topics of epidemiology, community health, health behavior, public health policy, and health promotion.
