Miami Presents: The Importance of High-Performance Cleaning to Reduce the Risk of Spreading Disease

With the onslaught of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the importance of cleaning has come to the forefront of our society. How we clean our hands, our clothes, our kitchens, our shopping carts, and yes, even our restrooms can stop the cross-contamination cycle. But are our cleaning methods really effective at removing soil and stopping cross-contamination? In this presentation, John Richter will examine many of our current cleaning tools and methods from a scientific approach and provide real-world data on high-performance cleaning methods. Richter graduated from the University of Dayton with Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering. He entered the cleaning industry in 2006 when he joined Kaivac, Inc. as Technical Director. At Kaivac, Richter conducted scientific studies and research in the areas of cleaning effectiveness with respect to various cleaning methods using ATP measurements, bacteria counts, and tribometry. In 2014, he accepted a position as Clinical Faculty Member with the Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Department at Miami University. In addition to teaching multiple engineering classes, he is an engineering consultant to the cleaning industry.
