MIAMI Women Presents: The Role of Women Leaders in Shaping the New World Order

Women are centric to the advancement of society and the development of nations. Without equal participation of women, or their empowerment, any ambitions we have of a better world will be unmet. Elephants in the tropical jungles of India, home of Bhairavi Jani '99, make pathways for everyone else as they search for food.  The Dinesh & Ila Paliwal Dean of the College of Engineering, Beena Sukumaran will talk with Bhairavi about the role she sees for women in the 21st century, and the belief that women leaders will become the pathfinders for forging a new social contract – a contract where women are equal partners in shaping the world order. 

Bhairavi Jani '99 is the Chairperson and Founder of IEF Entrepreneurship Foundation and Executive Director of SCA Group of Companies founded in 1896. SCA Group undertakes activities in supply chain and logistics sector. She is also a Director and member of the Strategic Advisory Group at Cargo Service Center India and Chairperson of Himalayan Essence.

Bhairavi has been listed as one of the 25 most Powerful Women in India by the India Today publication. She has been profiled as Stree Shakti (Woman Power) person by CNBC Awaaz and featured as a Young Turk by CNBC TV 18. She has been listed as one of the 10 women exemplars by the Hindustan Times and Business Today Magazine has featured her as the Supply Chain Maven.  Bhairavi graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Business.

Beena Sukumaran is the Dinesh and Ila Paliwal Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing at Miami University. Before joining Miami University, she was PI for an NSF Revolutionizing Engineering and Computer Science Department (RED) grant titled Revolutionizing Engineering Diversity (RevED). The RevED grant looked at strategies to grow the representation of women, underserved groups, and ethnic/racial minorities in Engineering, while enhancing inclusion through curriculum design, teaching, and learning. She has also been involved in various outreach activities to recruit more ethnic/racial minorities, women, and underserved groups into engineering.
